DESTRUCTION Frontman Slams BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Says ANNIHILATOR Was '99% Confirmed' For Tour

September 6, 2005

DESTRUCTION bassist/vocalist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer has slammed BLABBERMOUTH.NET and ANNIHILATOR mainman Jeff Waters over ANNIHILATOR's alleged cancellation of the two groups' plans to embark on a joint European tour (ANNIHILATOR has since been "replaced" on the billing by Swedish doomsters CANDLEMASS).

In an "open letter" to Schmier sent earlier today, Waters claimed that ANNIHILATOR was not able to secure enough tour support from the band's record label, AFM Records, in order to do the tour and insisted that ANNIHILATOR was never confirmed for the trek in the first place.

Writing on DESTRUCTION's official web site, Schmier responded to Waters' letter with the following message:

"Metalheads!

"I guess some of you saw the terrible yellow press headlines on BLABBERMOUTH.NET these days.

"As much as Jeff Waters can twist and turn it, since many weeks this tour was 99% confirmed!

"I was doin' my very best to support ANNIHILATOR in fact of getting the best deal with the agency etc!

"That I've called the running away after three month of negotiations a let down [by] Jeff was obiously showing my disappointment and not my disrespect!!!

"And no, I'm NOT offering my disappointment as an excuse for my choice of words!

"Our label, AFM Records, and our booking agency, Dragon Productions, know the truth behind the story.

"We never wanted to make this a public issue cause this is between Jeff, our partners and myself!

"I guess people like to make a big deal out of little disagreements to have a good story to write about!

"What a hoax! Blinded by the media, friends won't become enemies!

"We are really happy to have the doomgods CANDLEMASS with us. Good luck for Mr. Waters and his new record!

"Sorry — end of story!"
